SUBSTANCE MISUSE‘Turning Point’, a registered charity, provides advice, information & support for all drug & alcohol problems – this includes carer support. The service is confidential and free, and provides services for people with complex needs – including those affected by drug & alcohol misuse, mental health problems and those with a learning disability. ‘Turning Point’ is available throughout Somerset. Turning Point: freephone 0800 389 8049 If you experience or have been diagnosed as having a mental health problem and your drug use or drinking is causing you further problems, you can get support from your local Community Mental Health Team (CMHT). To find your local CMHT, contact Somerset Direct 0845 345 9133 Somerset Drugs Service (SDS) is a treatment service for people with substance misuse problems eg illegal drugs such as opiates & stimulants. It is a statutory treatment service provided by Somerset Partnership NHS & Social Care Trust. The service works closely with their partner agency ‘Turning Point’. SDS takes referrals from GP’s, Social Workers, and Probation Officers & Voluntary Agencies. SDS community teams, across Somerset provide a range of services, including:
At present there is only one NHS team dedicated to alcohol treatment. This is the Mendip Alcohol Service and the situation is under review. This team currently provides a range of treatment options, including a structured day care programme and has close links with Alcoholics Anonymous. The service is open 7 days a week. It is a service for those over 18, who have been in trouble with the law in the past 2 years (arrested, in prison, in contact with probation etc) and use drugs.
